Discovering Morgane Chouin: the art of linocut between sea and imagination

In a bright corner of Dinan, Brittany, Morgane Chouin's studio is a haven of calm and creativity. A former landscape architect turned designer and artisan engraver, she has established herself as a rising star in contemporary linocut.

An unexpected encounter with linocut

It was during a visit to the Maison et Jardin show in Rennes in 2014 that Morgane discovered linocut. Seduced by the simplicity and poetry of this technique, she immediately bought the necessary equipment. Self-taught, she learns by experimenting, combining the drawing skills she acquired at the École nationale supérieure de paysage de Versailles with her new passion for engraving.

A world inspired by Brittany

Morgane Chouin's works are an ode to Brittany: the Emerald Coast, fishermen, seascapes and plants are at the heart of her creations. She mainly uses blue and orange, colors that bring her serenity and energy, to sublimate her linocuts. Each print, limited to 30 or 50 copies, is unique thanks to variations in inking and pressure. She also offers introductory linocut workshops, either in her studio or on location, enabling everyone to discover this artisanal technique.

Expertise recognized beyond Brittany's borders

Morgane Chouin's work has quickly found a loyal following. Her linocuts have been exhibited in prestigious venues such as the Paris metro, as part of collaborations with the Thermes marins in Saint-Malo. Her pure, authentic style also appeals to local boutiques such as NOO in Saint-Malo, Nij in Rennes, and Vent de Voyage in Dinard. She regularly takes part in craft fairs, such as Les Échappées Belles in Nantes, where she presents her new creations

An eco-responsible approach

Aware of the environmental impact of her business, Morgane adopts an eco-responsible approach. She favors recycled materials, uses low-impact inks and papers, and transforms failed prints into business cards or derivative works. Her studio is a place where art and nature meet, offering an authentic experience that respects the environment.

Our collab'

At Algologie, we are committed to capturing the richness and beauty of our marine environment in Brittany. It was in this quest for meaning and authenticity that our path crossed that of Morgane Chouin, who lives not far from our laboratories

For several seasons now, we've had the pleasure of collaborating with Morgane to design and illustrate some of our limited-edition boxes. Her work, deeply inspired by nature and the ocean, is a perfect reflection of the values we uphold. Each visual she creates is the fruit of her artisan know-how, which gives her works texture, soul and movement.

The marine motifs, undulating plants and stylized waves she hand-engraves are then finely printed on our boxes. The result: boxes that tell a story, that of a wild, living Brittany, sublimated by the eye of a passionate artist. This is how we came up with our must-have gift sets, whether as a present or for yourself.

Beyond the aesthetics, this collaboration embodies our desire to make the best choice, that of local roots, respect for resources, and support for the talents of our region. By working hand in hand with Morgane, we are promoting Brittany's artistic and natural heritage far beyond our shores.

We're proud of this wonderful human and creative adventure, which combines skin care and attention to detail, for beauty that's committed, inspired and resolutely Breton.
