In a bright corner of Dinan, in Brittany, Morgane Chouin’s studio is a haven of calm and creativity. A former landscape architect turned designer and artisan engraver, she has established herself as a rising figure in contemporary linocut, combining artistic precision with a deep connection to nature.
Morgane Chouin: An Unexpected Journey into Linocut Art
Morgane’s encounter with linocut dates back to 2014, during a visit to the Maison et Jardin show in Rennes. Instantly captivated by the simplicity and poetic strength of this engraving technique, she purchased her first tools and began experimenting.
Self-taught, she gradually developed her own style, blending the drawing skills acquired at the École nationale supérieure de paysage de Versailles with her growing passion for linocut engraving.
A Linocut Universe Inspired by Brittany and the Sea
Morgane Chouin’s work is a true ode to Brittany. The Emerald Coast, fishermen, seascapes and coastal plants form the heart of her visual universe.
She mainly works with shades of blue and orange, colours that evoke both serenity and energy. Each linocut print is produced in a limited edition of 30 to 50 copies, and every piece is unique thanks to subtle variations in inking and pressure.
In addition to her artistic practice, Morgane offers introductory linocut workshops, either in her studio or on location, allowing participants to discover this traditional artisanal technique firsthand.
